Are you looking for a way to keep your kids healthy? I mean, you’re probably asking yourself, ‘aren’t we all?’ I know, I know, it’s something us moms are always trying to do, but it’s not always that easy.
Sometimes it’s just so convenient to stop at the local fast food joint and call it a day. I am guilty of this, but I try to avoid it as much as possible and sometimes all it takes is a little pre-planning.
Every Sunday, I get the kids and the husband and we make some of my favorite delicious snacks so that the whole family and especially the kids can have easy options when they are on the go. Check out some of my favorite options below and you’ll find it’s so fun to cook and prep with the whole family.
Yogurt Covered Blueberries from Family Meals Fresh
Start with blueberries that have been rinsed. Then grab a parchment lined baking sheet. Using a toothpick, dip one blueberry at a time into a container of nonfat blueberry yogurt. Place the dipped blueberry onto the parchment; repeat with all blueberries and then pop into the freezer for an hour.
Pea Hummus from My Fussy Eater
Another favorite is the Pea Hummus with vegetables. Combine a can of cooked chickpeas with a can bag of cooked frozen peas, add a garlic clove, about a tablespoon of lemon juice salt and pepper and a bit of water – blend it all up and pop it into individual serving containers for grab and go snacks.
Cucumber Cheese Sandwiches from Mom.Me
Another favorite of the kids is to wash and slice up a whole cucumber. Take two of the cucumber slices and put a small slice of low-fat mozzarella or other low-fat cheese, which makes for an instant healthy snack.
Peanut Butter & Banana Bites
If your kids are okay with peanut butter, try getting whole wheat tortillas and layering about a tablespoon of organic peanut butter on one side of the tortilla. Then, place a banana in the center and roll it up. Simply slice into bite sized pieces and voila, you have yourself a healthy nutritious snack.
