Enjoying A Simple Life

It’s true; life can be so hectic! I am very aware of this truth. Running here and there, taking care of the kids, spending time with my husband, enjoying my hobbies; all of these can fill up the day so quickly, it’s easy to wonder where the day went.

It can be hard to keep things simple, but simplifying your life can bring so much more meaning and purpose to it. Here are some ideas I’ve implemented to help make life a little more simple, and a lot more enjoyable!

Take Time For Loved Ones – It’s easy to let tasks and chores get in the way of spending time with our families. Make sure you don’t let something to be done get in the way of someone to be loved.

Give More – The most fulfilling times of my life are when I gave my time in service. It doesn’t have to be some huge project; something as simple as a smile can brighten a person’s day.

“I’m Sorry” & “Thank You” – A couple words can make a huge difference! You can lift the burdens of grudges by a simple apology, and showing gratitude helps to remind you just how much you have to be grateful for!

Be Healthy! – Exercise! Eat fruits and vegetables. Get enough sleep. The greatest of all joys in life are hard to enjoy if you feel terrible all the time. Take the time to take care of your body, and you’ll find you have much more time to spend!

Manage Stress – Stress can really eat away at a person! When you are feeling particularly overwhelmed, take a walk, call a friend for a pleasant chat, even just take a few deep breaths. When you lower your stress, you’ll think much clearer and each moment will be that much more enjoyable!

Don’t be afraid to say “No” – We often feel compelled to say “yes” when asked by a friend or family member to drop everything and help out. While helping others is important, it’s okay to say “No” every now and again!

Go Outside – Get some fresh air! Feel the sunlight on your face, play in the snow during the winter, take a swim in a lake or river. Being outside always helps to remember what matters the most and to appreciate the simple things.

Let Go – Declutter your home. Get rid of the things that are taking way too much for you time. If you need to, get a basic phone, cancel your cable, throw away all those magazines. A clean home makes for a cleaner mind.

Have A Routine – While you want to keep it simple and flexible, having a routine can be very healthy and bring order to your life. Even something as simple as getting up and going to bed at the same time everyday can make a big difference.

Be Bored! – Schedule some free time. It’s okay to not have something planned every second of every day! Let yourself be bored now and again and enjoy the peace and quiet that comes to you.

Track Your Spending – Use a budget, not only for your money, but for your time! Keep a record of how you spend your day. Look at it later and make adjustments as needed. You can learn a lot about yourself just by writing it down.

Be Yourself – There are over seven billion people in this world and only one you. Why would you want to be anyone else? Be yourself and do what you love! You deserve to be happy! All of us do!

Every single one of us has the exact same amount of time in a day; no more, no less. What we do with those 24 hours is entirely up to us! With a little planning and a bit more discipline, we can make everyday a fond memory!
